The opening of Hotel Elkhart represents the latest step in an active 2021 for Mno-Bmadsen.
Dowagiac, MI – Mno-Bmadsen, the independent non-gaming investment entity of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, is proud to announce the grand opening of Hotel Elkhart, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Hotel Elkhart, 500 South Main Street on Sept. 28th at 10:30 a.m. EDT and is open to the public.
Through its commercial real estate services arm known as Red Tail Properties, Mno-Bmadsen invested in Hotel Elkhart alongside Cressy Commercial Real Estate and others. Hotel Elkhart represents Mno-Bmadsen’s first commercial investment in Elkhart, IN while significantly differentiating the entity’s portfolio.
“Mno-Bmadsen’s Family of Companies provides an array of expertise and services, including architecture, engineering, land-use planning, environmental mitigation and restoration, mechanical contracting and plastic molding to the commercial, government, and tribal markets,” said Chief Executive Officer Julio Martinez. “Hotel Elkhart further diversifies our real estate portfolio.”
Originally constructed in 1923, the new Hotel Elkhart now boasts 93 full-service boutique guest rooms, Relish Café & Confections, serving freshly made pastries and restaurant food items, The Corner Bar, breakout meeting space, along with a fully renovated ninth floor Aria Ballroom offering outstanding views from an expansive rooftop bar known as The High Note. This redevelopment project is a collaboration of public and private partnerships, including the City of Elkhart, State of Indiana, Centier Bank, Regional Cities Initiative, and the National Parks Department.
The investment in Hotel Elkhart also has significance for Mno-Bmadsen and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi because it sits on important ancestral land. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi is a federally recognized Indian tribe located in Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana. The band is the only federally recognized tribe in the Hoosier State and proudly has 5,100 citizens that has an elected 11-member council. The Pokagon Band owns more than 6,000 acres of land in Michigan and Indiana.
The opening of Hotel Elkhart represents the latest step in an active 2021 for Mno-Bmadsen. In March, the entity announced the acquisition of high-precision parts maker Walerko Tool and Engineering through its manufacturing investment vehicle Mno-DREK. In addition to Walerko, Mno-Bmadsen announced the formation of Bodwé Professional Services earlier this year, the rebranding of the family of professional services companies. The rebranding of Bodwé also included the creation of a new firm, The Steelhead Engineering Co., and the formation of Blue Star Integrative Studio LLC, an Indigenous American planning and architecture firm in Tulsa, OK.
Bodwé is also comprised of Seven Generations Architecture + Engineering and WBK Engineering, existing portfolio companies of Mno-Bmadsen. The firms work independently and collaboratively to support public and private clients nationwide across sectors, including tribal, municipal, federal, healthcare, and community.
Mno-Bmadsen manages a diverse portfolio of investments on behalf of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. In addition to real estate, Mno-Bmadsen invests in professional services, construction services and manufacturing services.
Mno-Bmadsen, which was founded in 2012 and is derived from the Pokagon phrase “the good path,” has grown its investment portfolio to include more than 300 employees within the family of companies, more than $140 million in combined annual revenues, and a growing federal contracting operation.
