“Mno” is the Pokagon word for “good” and “Bmadsen” is an abbreviation of “Bmadzewen,” which means “way of living.” Our name, Mno-Bmadsen, is meant to reflect how our values and principles guide us in all we do as an investment firm.
Mno-Bmadsen advances economic self-sufficiency for the Pokagon Band by acquiring well-managed companies that generate profits and have prospects for long-term viability. We buy, hold, and grow the Mno-Bmadsen Family of Companies. Our operating companies provides architecture, engineering, land-use planning, environmental mitigation and restoration services, construction, mechanical contracting, and plastic molding to commercial, government, and tribal markets.
Chartered under the laws of the Pokagon Band in 2012, Mno-Bmadsen diversifies the Tribe’s financial interests while maintaining separation between business and tribal government. We are governed by an independent board and none of our employees or portfolio managers is an elected tribal official. We have the trust of tribal leaders who respect the independence of Mno-Bmadsen, allowing us to make decisions based solely on investment policy and deal metrics.
The Mno-Bmadsen path is built upon our seven generations philosophy of making investments today that will positively impact the next seven generations of our Tribe.
Whether it was coming together in prior generations as a tribe to gather food, medicine and living quarters for the different moons of the year or planning for retirement, healthcare and affordable housing today, our Seven Generations philosophy teaches us to the value of working together to plan for our shared future and for what may come for relatives we will never meet.
To cherish knowledge is to know Wisdom. Wisdom is given by the Creator to be used for the good of the people.
To know peace is to know Love. Love must be unconditional. When people are weak they need love the most.
To honor all creation is to have Respect. All of creation should be treated with respect. You must give respect if you wish to be respected.
Bravery is to face the foe with integrity. To do what is right even when the consequences are unpleasant.
Honesty in facing a situation is to be brave. Always be honest in word and action. Be honest first with yourself, and you will more easily be able to be honest with others.
Humility is to know yourself as a sacred part of Creation. You are equal to others, but you are not better.
Truth is to know all of these things. Speak the truth. Do not deceive yourself or others.
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi is a federally recognized Indian tribe located in Southwest Michigan and the only federally recognized tribe in Indiana. The Band owns more than 6,000 acres of land in Michigan and Indiana, roughly half of which is held in trust for the Tribe by the federal government and boasts more than 6,000 citizens with an elected tribal council of 11 members.
Known as the “Keepers of the Fire,” the Pokagon people have endured thanks partly to their seven generations philosophy and values. Adapting these deeply-rooted ideals to contemporary circumstances has made the Band an engine for economic development and a model for sustainable living in the region.
