MICHIGAN, (WPBN/WGTU) — Three Michigan tribes are coming together to create a brand-new construction company to serve communities across the state.
Groups from the Little Traverse Bay Band, the Pokagon Band and the Gun Lake Tribe of Grand Rapids have come together to form Aki Construction, LLC.
The group aims to lead tribal construction projects across the Midwest and beyond.
“It’s extremely important to our community,” said Shanna Shananaquet, with the Odawa Economic Affairs Holding Corporation.
“To be able to join up with one another and walk alongside each other, it is going to be huge,” Shananaquet said. “And in addition, we have the same alignment, and we all care about our communities and the welfare of the people around us.”

The groups’ first major project is still under wraps, but the goal is to focus on commercial builds to improve economic development across the state.
